Why did you start Stowhill Estates Buckinghamshire?
We started Stowhill Estates Buckinghamshire because we believed there was room for a different kind of agency in South Bucks. The high street model, with one negotiator juggling forty listings and a centralised back office handling sales progression, simply does not give a million-pound home the attention it deserves. We wanted to build something deliberately small, run by us, where every property gets the marketing budget and personal time it actually needs. The boutique model is the answer to a real problem in our industry, not a marketing position.
How many properties do you take on at once?
Not many. We deliberately cap the number of active listings we hold so that each one gets full marketing attention, weekly review, and personal sales progression. The exact number varies by season and territory, but the principle is fixed: we will turn down an instruction before we let our existing clients get less than they should. Most of our competitors operate on volume; we operate on focus.
What types of property do you typically handle?
Premium homes across South Buckinghamshire and the Thames Valley, typically priced from £1 million upwards. That includes period properties, riverside homes, country houses, contemporary architect-designed homes, listed buildings, and homes in conservation areas. The unifying theme is that they are properties that need more careful marketing than a template listing can provide. Do you handle property purchases as well as sales?
We act for buyers in a small number of cases, particularly where someone has a clear brief for a unique property and would benefit from our knowledge of the off-market network in our area. It is not our primary business. If buying is what you are most focused on, we will be honest about whether we are the right fit or whether you would be better served by a dedicated buying agent.
What’s the geographic limit of your area?
We work across Marlow, Henley-on-Thames, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, Amersham, and the villages in between, including Marlow Bottom, Bisham, Cookham, Lower Shiplake, and the Chalfonts. Properties slightly outside this footprint we will consider case by case, depending on whether we genuinely know the market well enough to do the home justice. We will tell you honestly if we do not.
How do I know if Stowhill Estates is the right agent for my home?
The honest answer is that you will know after the valuation visit. We take 90 minutes, we walk through the house with you, we listen to what you want, we give you our view on price and marketing approach, and we tell you whether we think we are the right fit. If we are not, we will say so and (where we can) point you in a better direction. The valuation is free and there is no obligation either way.
Do you charge upfront fees
There is a refundable payment on account at the point of instruction, which covers the upfront marketing costs of getting your property to market: photography, video, brochure design, and floor plans. That payment is returned to you in full when the sale completes. The commission itself is payable only on successful completion. We are transparent about both figures on the first visit, and there are no hidden add-ons or surprises later.
Are you part of a larger network?
Stowhill Estates Buckinghamshire is the South Bucks territory of the wider Stowhill Estates network. It is owned and operated by David and Sara through Alston Rhodes Ventures Ltd, run from Marlow, with everything from valuation through to completion handled personally by us. We benefit from the wider network for cross-territory referrals (a London buyer looking for a country home, a relocator moving between regions) but the day-to-day work and the relationship with you is entirely with us.
